ALERT: HB789 Hearing Scheduled for Monday 8 am in Senate Business and Commerce Committee
The schedule was posted on Friday night.
Please let the Senators know that we are paying attention. Please fax the committee members offices. The staffers will take the faxes and put them into a packet for the Senator during the hearing.
In the fax, please ask them to remove the ban on cities and towns supporting broadband service from HB789. Let them know in your own words that:
- Texas cities and towns need broadband for economic viability. The state should not harm the spread of broadband to communities that need it.
- Every Texas community deserves the right to decide how to support critical infrastructure
- Technology is changing quickly—we should not rush to regulate and limit the spread of new technology

We are still trying to get a copy of the bill. Please forward a copy if you have it, or post to the list if you have seen it and know the status of the municipal network section.
Please RSVP to info@savemuniwireless.org if you are planning to attend the hearing so we can co-ordinate. If you have particular interest (you are involved with a municipal internet project, you have relevant technical expertise), please let us know. It is helpful to have testimony from people representing different areas of interest and expertise. It is not helpful to have many people testify with the same story. If you plan to come but not testify, you can sign a witness card that goes into the record.
